Book Group - July's read - Through a Glass Darkly by Justein Gaarder
This month's read as suggested by Star. I've ordered mine already. The reviews on Amazon are mostly really positive, but there are one or two saying it lacks substance and the writer's style is repetitive. Let's have a read ourselves and see what we think!

PS Star says:
Have just come across a beautiful book I read ages ago hidden at the back of the bookshelf (was sorting it out) and esp given the angel threads going on at the moment thought it might be a poss for next months read. Its called Through a Glass Darkly by Jostein Gaarder and mine is a hard back A5 size copy so doesnt take too long to read. Its about conversations of life and death between a young girl and an angel. ' As Cecilia lies ill in bed, and her family prepare for Xmas in the knowledge that she is not going to get better, an angel steps through her window. Ariel is no ordinary Angel and with his presence subtle changes take place in the relationship between Cecilia and her family as she swings from anger and denial, hope and despair to a calm acceptance of her lot. She is preparing to leave.......'.
Even if not chosen for next month definately worth a read by all of you who are in contact with or interested in Angels
.
I was wondering if we should go for the Secret or something like that! My copy of Through a Glass Darkly arrived today, so will probably start tonight.

I know I'm quick off the mark (for a change!) this month lol! How're you finding it? Maybe shouldn't have read it straight after The Shack, but I found the treatment of the big issues in that book far more satisfying. Let me know what you think!

This is really a reminder for me, but please feel free to add to it!
Janet's already made a good suggestion, but I also another book we might enjoy:
I Have Lived Before - The True Stroy of the Reincarnation of Shanti Devi.
This lady started talking about her previous family when she was about 4 - and eventually got to meet some of them!
Let me know what you think

I have just finished reading this book. I couldn't put it down!
It is written in novel style, like The Shack, and if focuses on one man's journey through Peru in search of 9 Insights. These are trying to be surpressed by the Peruvians.
Each Insight deals with coincidences and learning that they are not, and with listening to your body and mind and your stray thoughts and daydreams and the importance of acting on them. They also deal with your own personal energy and the energy of the Universe and how we deal with each others energy. And how events that happened to us as children and how our parent's opinions make us the people we are today. It also comes up with an interesting idea of why the Mayan civilisation disappeared as it did - but I won't give away any of the plot!!
It is a book that I will DEFINATELY be reading again!!! Lyn xx
Sounds good Lyn. Will add it to my every increasing list of books to read if its not chosen as August's book read ![]()

Cherry recommended this book on SQ Forum:
When Ghosts Speak - Mary Ann Winkowski. She was consultant on TV programme Ghost Whisperer.

So many interesting books - so little time!! Thought I'd jot these down while I remember:
Angela's Angels - Angela McGhee - this is the psychic sleuth in this month's S&D.
Animal Spirit Guides - Chris Luttichau - beginner's guide to connecting with your power animal and the shamanic path.
Men, Money and Chocolate - Menna Van Praag - sounds like a winning combimation to me lol!! Light hearted tale of the spiritual journey of a lovelorn chocolate shop owner!
Has anyone else read this month's book yet? If so would love to hear your thoughts!

I found it quite weird!! To say the angel was visiting this little girl to support her through a terminal illness, their exchanges just seemed a bit odd to me. Most of it seemed to be about the Angel finding out what it's like to be human. There were nice moments, a bit like The Snowman, where the angel took the girl out into the snow or downstairs at Christmas, but overall I found it a bit repetitive and unsatisfying. The Shack was a much better read!
Would be interested to know what anyone else thought?

Hi Kirsty,
Thought I'd just make a suggestion for the next book of Having it All by John Assaraf (he is one of the contributors to The Secret). I have just started it and it's really good and written in an easily digestible way.
Given some of the other posts, I think quite a few of us need a positive boost in our lives and this book gives it.
In love & light,
Janet
