I sometimes hear the house phone ringing once or maybe twice at night, upon checking in the morning no-one had rung at that time????
me and my fiance used to both hear it quite often in the last house we were in, but since moving house in May this year, only I have heard it once or twice. I usually ask ' who is trying to contact me' but get no answer or anything, so i end up saying 'no-one there...stop messing and let me go back to sleep, and contact me in some other way during waking hours'!!!! lol but nothing!?
anyone had similar thing? doorbell and no-one there?
I have episodes of the phone ringing with no one there, unfortunately i can only offer a boring mundane answer. Lots of call centres use auto dialling and ring the mailing list/phone book automatically. When you answer it, but they don't actually have a rep available to try to sell you something, all you hear is silence. I logged on and joined the telephone preferance service and the mail preferance service to have my number and address removed from the mailing/telephone lists companies buy and i don't get as much junk mail or cold calling. If you do this and still get phone calls, maybe someone IS trying to sent you a sign. Lol
I used to have this in the house I grew up in, pre call centers and electronic auto dialing and all that (I now feel old) We had the old dial phones and my bedroom was right above it. I used to often hear it ringing for ages and ages. If I got up to answer it no-one was there. Kind of got used to it in the end, no one else seemed to hear it.
I had just been reading this thread then had to go and sort out dinner. While we were eating the phone rang so I left it till we had finished. When I did 1471 my mothers number was registered so I rang her back. She answered and when heard it was me enquired had a rung her. At the same time we both received a phone call she answered hers but got a dead tone did 1471 and got my number.
Years ago and believe it or not it was a day or two before the service 1471 became operational my brothers wife was due with her second child. My father had died twelve months before. In the middle of the night the phone rang and my husband said that will be your brother they must have had the baby. Nobody was on the other end of the phone just silence so ran downstairs to get there number from the book and rang back, to my surprise my sister in law answered the phone. My brother and mother where in bed and she was in full labour with the mid wife. I said I would leave her to get on with it and not long after my nephew was born. Now who rang and never spoke. I believe my Dad was letting me know about the coming news, He must have been so excited. xx
but if it was a call centre, the 1471 service would register the call, so prob say the number was withheld but state the time you heard it ring. as there was no call registered at the time you heard it ring makes me think it wasn't a call centre!!
sorry can't throw any light on what it was tho :-)
Yes and if it was a call center how bizarre both myself and my mum had exactly the same thing at the same time. Hmmm. 1471 said my mums number on my phone and my number on my mums phone yet neither of us had rang.
I was just reading this and thinking aww things like that never happen to me, and then I remembered something I had completely forgotten about. About a year ago the phone rang during the night, picked it up and there was no one there did 1471 and no call was shaken up as always think the phone at that time means something wrong. About 5 mins later it did it again. We decided it must be something wrong at the phone company!
A while ago my mobile was on my bed (it was a slide phone at the time and shut, keypad locked) and i was doing something just across my room, when i saw the light flash up on the screen, went over to look at it thinking it must be a text or call, and my phone was ringing one of my mates completely on its own! like it has gone into my contacts on its own and called her - i was completely shocked, so i rang her again going 'omg are you ok? my phone just rang you on its own!' and she was fine...just never knew how it did it considering it was on the other side of the room! Flowerfairy could it be a fault within the phone? maybe if it bothers you change the handset if you can and see if it still does it, or could it be the connection? or maybe it is something more spiritual... x
I have my theory which I will tell you when i next speak to you. xxx
