Positive thoughts!!

I am really pleased this week.  When I went back to work a couple of weeks ago I sent my cv off to quite a few places.  I've had three replies back so far, two positive and one negative.

I've managed to get myself an interview this friday.  I'm going to need lots of luck with this as it really important that I get out of where I am now for the sake of my blood pressure, sanity and bank balance.

I'll find out the details of the job when I go for my interview but I've got to take a book to read and be prepared to answer written and oral questions.  So that shows that where I'm going has certain standards.

If you know of any positive things that I can do, where or prepare myself with I'd be really grateful if you could share them.

I'm really excited about this interview and I just want it to be friday already.  I'm keeping everything crossed.

Research

Hi Lou,

In my job I interview and recruit people. Make sure you research the company and what they do - information is power and knowing how the company works gives you an edge. There is nothing more off putting than someone who has just replied to the job advertisment and knows nothing.

Wear a piece of jade near you heart chakra to acheive your goal and just remember getting the interview is the hard bit. Your CV has tempted them to want to know more about you and what you can bring to the position.

Of course there is always the old favourite - rescue remedy.

At the interview if asked why you are leaving your current post NEVER say anything negative about your current job. Keep everything positive and you will remain positive. Think about areas that you could improve on and areas that are your strong points - employers like people who are open to change and learning.

To remain positive and calm make sure you know where you are going and any transport or parking issues that may arise. Leave 15 minutes earlier than you think you need to and make sure you have their contact number if you get stuck in traffic because of an accident.

Above all trust yourself, when asked a question think before you speak (this shows you are listening), be polite and even if you feel your legs are like jelly walk and talk as if they are not. Sort your wardrobe wednesday night then look at it again thursday rather than a mad panic on friday.

A black suit is traditional interview wear but try adding in something that makes you stand out. Go easy on the make-up, heels and jewellery. Regardless of the kind of job you are going for jeans, leggins and ugg boots are a no-no. I am not one for conformity however there will be plenty of time to show them your personallity when you are working with them. You want your abilities to stand out and wearing 'neutal' clothing will not detract from them.

Finally make time to meditate each evening and imagine yourself calm and confident at the interview.

Hope this helps. Best of luck and positive thoughts for you.

Thank you for your advice, it

Thank you for your advice, it really helped.

I had my interview today and I now have to wait and see what happens.  All week I've been so excited and then today my nerves kicked in and I felt like I babbled through the answers.  They really put me through my paces too, I had to answer verbal as well as written questions and spend time doing an observation on the children. I had to show what I knew about my job and I was asked about ofsted.

I feel it went well but then again I think your made to feel like you've got the job even though you haven't yet.  One thing I did find was that they said the interview would take an hour and a half but I was offered no drink or anything, which I think was a bit of a poor show from them, I know its an interview but they need to come across as friendly too. Thats quite a long time in an interview too.

I shall keep you posted on how I've done.  I would really like the job as the place seems nice and friendly.

On the other hand its been an experience whatever happens and if there is no luck I'm not sure what to do next as no where else has respnded to the cv's I sent out.
