Hi everyone,

I went to the hospital last tuesday, I had to have a mammogram, ultrascan and a biopsy.  They think i've got breast cancer.  Haven't had the results yet, i've got to wait at least two weeks for the results, such a long wait.

I've only told my husband and two friends.  I'd really appreciate any positive thoughts, healing, anything really. I'm sure it all helps.

Any advice on crystals or alternative therapies would be very welcome too.

It seems a bit unfair as i'm vegetarian I don't smoke, no family history of breast cancer, but then life is unfair sometimes.

Thanks for reading,

Love and light xxxxx

Many thanks star and dreamer,

Many thanks star and dreamer, I'm feeling better already!

Two weeks is a long time to wait, but I had to wait four months for my initial appointment, which was almost harder.  In the hospital last Tuesday they seemed pretty sure it was cancer.  Was an awful shock.

I have to go for a full bodyscan next Thursday and be injected with a low dose of radium it acts as a tracer, or something.  Not looking forward to it anyway!

hoping its not

Hi,

Am hoping its not cancer, and if it is, its in the early stages and can be treated.

Have you spoken with either the Macmillan cancer charity or Cancer Research UK? If you go into your nearest Cancer Research shop, they should be able to give you some info for support. I know Macmillan were fab when my mum was diagnosed.

Thanks so much, Cornovii Queen

I live in Ireland, I have a breast cancer helpline number.  I haven't rung it yet, I'm still getting my head around the whole thing.

The lady who did the ultrascan kept muttering about glands, but wouldn't elaborate, it fills my head with fears that it's spread.  But I'm trying to keep positive too.

I'll let you know what the results are.  It makes me feel a lot less lonely with all your support.

Sorry to hear your news SeaBee, I'll send you healing tonight, but hope you get the all clear after your tests.  If you do have breast cancer, it does seem to be very treatable these days, and several of my friends have come out the other side of it safe and sound recently.  If you get to the point of needing any treatment, there's a book one of my pals recommends - but I'll assume you WON'T need to read it for now!!

Take care of yourself hon and I'm keeping everything crossed for you

Thanks so much Gemini, you are an angel.

I'm so glad your mum's ok, Cornovii Queen, I think I will phone up tomorrow as I'm getting in an awful panic about this scan on Thursday, I think it could've at least waited till after my results came through.

Thanks Citychick, for your love and support it really means a lot.

And Thanks Kirsty for sending healing.  I do hope I won't have to read that book, but I will if my results are positive.  I'm going to try everything I can, lots of alternative therapies and suppliments along with conventional.

I really feel very lucky to know you all.

I hope your husband's feeling much better tonight, Kirsty.

Thanks so much seastar, I

Thanks so much seastar, I really appreciate your healing and positive thoughts.

Yes it's a horrible time, I still can't quite believe it's happening, i'm always in such good health!  It's going to be such a shock for my friends, I'm dreading telling them, and much worse telling my boys and my dad.

Two friends who I haven't seen for quite a while both phoned me today and said they'd been thinking about me a lot lately but neither of them could quite work out why.  I'm wondering is some sixth sense knocking on their door.

And thanks so much Gemini, I will deifinitely get some of those crystals. Have you seen the greenwitch website?  It's really good, I'm sure she will have some of those stones. www.greenwitch.ie I think that's it.

I'll carry the crystals about with me, maybe in a little bag.  I have a piece of moonstone in my pocket at the moment, I felt sort of drawn to it but it's not one of the crystals you mentioned.  In fact maybe moonstone's a bit too greenish to be in my pocket so i'll take it out.

Many thanks again

Lots of love xxxxxx

Oh thanks Tipsycat, I feel so blessed that you're all thinking of me, especially when I've hardly told anyone esle it means so much and makes me feel less alone.

I'll let you know the outcome.  It would be unbelievable if the results were negative, the consultant seemed to be so sure it was opposite.

Thanks so much Heather, it's so hard behaving, in front of my boys as though nothing's wrong.  I can't tell them till I've had the results.

And my dad's 91, he lives nextdoor and making a brilliant recovery from a year of illness.  So it will be a lot for him to deal with.

I have a scan on Thursday which I'm not looking forward to, it sounds a bit claustrophobic.

But I'm trying to stay positive.

Many thanks again,

Are you having an MRI SeaBee?  If so my tips for coping are:

  • if poss get them to position you so that you can still see out of the top of the machine (they can't always, but if they can it's less claustrophobic)
  • if not, keep your eyes closed throughout!
  • you can't move during the process, so get yourself comfy before you go in
  • it is very noisy, and some people like to take a CD to play during the process, but I found the combination of the noise and music more annoying.
  • close your eyes and relax - meditate if you can, or try to drift off into thoughts about other things.  It really helps to while the time away and stop you thinking about the small space.

Good luck!

Thanks so much Kirsty,

It's a bone scan, and claustrophic because someone told me the scanning plate passes a couple of centimeters above your face, I appreciate your thoughts on coping because I'm feeling a bit panicky about it.  I will just shut my eyes and try to drift.  And hope it doesn't show up anything else!

I'll most likely have a CT scan as well, but not on the same day.

Many thanks and much love xxxx

Seabee so sorry to hear that it is breast cancer. I have just seen this post and as I scrolled down I was hoping it wasn't breast cancer. Hoping now that it is in the early stages. There is an Irish Cancer Society website which maybe of some support to you.

Chemo can make people feel very sick and there are loads of different things people do to try to reduce this but if the chemo you have may cause sickness I'm sure your doctor will prescibe you something anyway. Most important thing is to stay hydrated. Relaxation also helps, which I suppose won't be easy, so maybe a meditation CD will help.

I'm sending you positive healing thoughts.

I'm so sorry seabee

Please be strong, there are lots of very effective treatments out there and although they may make you feel unwell, if you ask the angels and your guides to give you strength and support to you and your family, I'm sure you will come through this healthy, happy and strong.

Everyone on this forum will give you as much support and love as you need to help you, don't forget that lots of complementary therapies can be used alongside the traditional medicines and treatments and lots of hospitals are much more open and aware of the more holistic alternatives so just ask them for info.

Lots of love and hugs,

Thanks so much Anghou and

Thanks so much Anghou and Alison,

I really appreciate your support it makes such a difference.  I'm looking into all sorts of alternative therapies, I've ordered a jug with a filter that turns the water alkaline, apparently cancer finds it hard to grow in an alkaline body, and a louise Hay cancer healing cd, and I will take apricot kernels with pineapple juice which is apparently powerful against cancer.  And Essiac tea which clears the chemo out of your system when you're having a break so you don't feel so sick.

So far I have found that the hospitals here are not much into alternative therapies and not at all holistic.  So I appreciate hearing and talking about alternative therapies here with people who will not think i'm a bit daft!

I will be asking the angels and guides for help, and my mum and brother who both died of cancer.  I told my boys this evening, which was so difficult, and dreading telling my dad.  Telling people is awful.

Much love xxxxxxx

Thanks so much Heather and

Thanks so much Heather and Jackieb,

I've got to tell my dad today and it's even harder than telling my boys.  You can reassure children, but dad's 91 and, as I think I already said, my mum and brother both died from cancer and he's just made an amazing recovery from it.

My dad's quite inspiring really, he doesn't look old, still driving and playing golf, he's brill on the computer and texts the family in England.  All his friends are years younger than he is.  He's also spent the last two years building a boat, a kit boat it arrived in a big flat pack.  I'ts about 12 foot long, a small sailing boat, it's more or less finished now and he wants to try sailing it if we get any good days before winter really sets in.

Last year he was ten foot up ladder, cutting branches off a tree.  But he forgot to secure the ladder and it wobbled and he fell off...as he fell he began to wonder how many bones he was going to break, then he realised he was falling very slowly.  he landed on his back...on some logs!!! but the landing was very soft, he got up without an ache or a pain.  He firmly believes his guardian angel caught him in her arms and brought him down gently.  Isn't that amazing.

Lots of love and thanks xxxxx seabee

This is a quote from my friend Katy who came out the other side of breast cancer not so long ago:

"make yourself feel special throughout your treatment because you are special. Also a V good book to read is..."Coping With Chemotherapy" by Dr Terry Priestman, published by Sheldon Press (£7.99). It is a very informative, all eventualities, understandable book which is actually interesting to read. And don't worry your hair will grow back amazingly quickly afterwards."

I read an article recently that says gentle exercise can really help your treatment, and prevent recurrance too.

I hope your dad is ok when you tell him, but remind him you have his genes as well as your mum's and he seems to be indestructable, bless him!

Sending you lots of love, healing and positive thoughts

Thanks so much Kirsty,

I'll definitely get that book.  I'm relieved to hear that hair grows back quickly, the thought of my long hair falling out is just awful.  My sons are already worrying about it, as fate would have it my oldest son learned all about cancer in school yesterday.

I hope I'll keep walking my dog throughout, and I know staying positive is important but i'm not sure i could be relentlessly positive all the time.  Perhaps thats ok too.

I haven't told dad yet.  I think i'll have to have my husband with me to tell him, or i'll never get the words out.

It wouldn't be natural Seabee!

I think you are quite right to have a good cry, a good moan or a good shout about this - I'm sure I would! - and I don't think it's healthy to hold your real feelings in all the time.  Although thinking positive does help too, it would be impossible to do that all the time

Hi seabee,

So sorry to hear the news and im hoping theyve discovered it early to lessen the treatments. I know how difficult it can be to tell your love ones as Mum was scared.

It may be a good thing for your son to have learnt about it from the school as then he can have facts and not emotions presented to him and Im a great believer that if you have knowledge of the treatments, the less scary it will be.

Your dad sounds wonderful and strong and able to cope with things and I love the story you told about him, but its got me worrying that he fell in the first place!

He promised us never to go up a ladder again but I caught him trying to mend the garage roof just a few months back.  Can you believe it?!!!

I talked with my boys last night, the oldest one is especially into facts, as he has aspergers he's more factual than emotional.  The younger has aspergers too, but hes more emotional than factual, which is puzzling.

I'm glad your Dad is being practical and supportive. He sounds like quite a character. He has done well to recover from cancer himself, he must be a real inspiration to you.

I think it is always good to have something to look forward to so maybe you could plan a treat for yourself or a family day out when your treatment is over. It would give you something positive to focus on and you could viizualise the day and a happy healthy you.

I thought they could give you a cap to stop hair loss these days. That could be one of your questions for your consultant as I'm sure you've got lots. Take care and remember be are all here  for you.
