I am new here but have been a subscriber to S&D  for a long time.

Reiki is an amazing gift from the universe for sharing...I am 1, 2 and masters and it has been the most wonderful experience of my life (close second being giving birth 2 my wonderful sons) Enjoy using these tools of the universe to bring healing and well being to the world. Reiki was the beginning of an amazing journey for me ...enjoy your trip.

Same here. I have been attuned to 1, 2 & Master Teacher. I love Reiki and have had some fantastic results and experiences with it. Even my sceptical husband has now started asking me to 'do some magic' on his mates when they have injuries etc! I have subscribed to S&D for as long as I can remember though. Best mag around :) 

I'm going to get some Reiki healing next week. I'm really looking forward to it because i've never had it before and really don't know what to expect

There are many ways of becoming trained in reiki, it really depends on what you want to do in the future. There are many online sites that offer free reiki training, but in many ways learning in a group and meeting the teacher and other people can give a much better experience. I trained in person and have also had workshops online, both are very good as long as you choose the right teacher.

Anyone can learn how to send healing energy though and no attunements are necessary.

Hi Edith. I'm interested in finding out a little bit about your Reiki experiences. I have done level 1 and 2, but have never experienced any benefits or noticable things happening when I use it, which has left me discrediting Reiki completely as a bit of a con or that I haven't been properly attuned by the reiki person I went to. Can you tell me what happens when you use it, ie. what you see, feel or experience anything? Mise x

I completed Reiki Level 1 a couple of years ago and found it very beneficial. I mainly practised on myself. From the beginning while doing Reiki I have been able to see faces very clearly and lots of differnt colours. However, I haven't practised in a while as I had a couple of strange/scary experiences. Both times I felt like I couldn't move and that...this is probably going to sound mad but I promise I'm not a nutter...that I was been taken over by something. It has really put me off and shortly after I found out I was preganat so thought it better not to practise. Is my experience normal?

I have had Reiki several times and absolutely love it. I always use the same person and she always feels spirits around us - not something she normally does. On one occasion her hands and arms changed into that of my paternal grandmother. Quite an experience for her. We have also had wind chimes moving and lights flickering. Again not a usual happening for her. So anyone who is having similar experiences please do not worry - your not mad! or am i the mad one????? Elinora x

I went and had reiki for the second time last night and it felt different from the first time. Could feel I was already improving. After the lady was telling me what she saw and almost described one of my dreams from 2 weeks ago exactly! She said she saw lots of pink around my head and said that was good because it was love around me. I do find though that when she is around my throat chakra (is that right?) i start crying! I am definately going to train for this one day myself. Linda x

I know people that are doing reiki can see and feel things they wouldn't usually. But having it done to you, can this make you more open to seeing and feeling more? Had strange dreams and feelings since I've started having reiki. Nothing bad, well apart from kept smelling something really horrible in my dream last night! Linda x

Hi Nikki, I've had 2 sessions now. Both felt very different. Theres not really any hands on (only a bit where needed) Both times i've been felt different. First time it felt like my brain was going in waves in my head! And my head got really hot! this time I felt more all over. Its very strange but very good. I have felt so much better after each session. Hope you enjoy too, let us know how you get on. Linda x

I do think recieving reiki makes you more open to seeing and feeling things. I completed Level 1 over two days and before I was fully attuned I started seeing and feeling things. When I have had reiki from someone else I have had similar experiences to when I have done it myself, although they haven't always been as strong. My reiki master has told me that she has had people who have cried and been physically sick. What you have experienced sounds normally to me!

I am a reiki master and have to say I have never looked back. My attunement to reiki started the begining of an exciting journey for me about 5 years ago, I since become a hypnotherapist and reiki healer and trainer, moved to another part of the country and completely changed my life around and attracted good people into my life. A lot of it is thanks to reiki and I know a lot more exciting stuff is yet to come. Its a wonderful healing energy and has transformed my life and helped me to help so many other people that have required healing. One of the biggest moments when reiki helped me was when I lost my grandmother 4 year ago, I make sure I went for regular reiki treatments (as its the power of reiki is always stronger when you are healed by another reiki practitioner) and it restored my energy and made me much better able to cope emotionally and mentally with her loss. I could talk about reiki for hours as I have had so many positive experiences with it! Quite happy to swop emails!

Well have been today for my first reiki session, it was lovely, didn't think i would feel so relaxed with a mainly 'hands off' treatment but it was nice.  Didn't manage to switch off in my head tho and was still going thru all the crap going on in my life at the mo, the more i tried to stop thinking the more i did!!

After reading some of your posts i was hoping for something to happen i think, and apart from seeing some colours, mainly yellow,  while she was working round my head there wasn't much to report.

One strange thing happened near the end tho, i had a face appear, and old wrinkled face right up close to me, then it disappeared and when i tried to recall it i couldn't!! don't think i recognised the person, it could have been a grandparent but it wasn;t obviously one of them!!

Anyway, will def be saving up for another session in the future!

I am currently training to be a reiki teacher so have been reading lots about the various schools of thought on how it should be transmitted from teacher to student.

It is only my opinion, but I feel that the original Usui Reiki method has a lot in its favour.  I feel slightly uncomfortable with the idea that attunements can be done free over the internet.  One of the tenets of Usui's reiki is that there should be some form of exchange taking place whenever reiki is given (either as an attunement or a treatment).  Whilst this doesn't necessarily mean monetary, it needs to be something of "value".  I believe that this enhances the appreciation of the gift that reiki healing gives.

So, I would recommend you find a reiki master who you feel comfortable with (at least speak to them over the phone if you can't meet them in advance of any course you go on).

I have read feedback of people who think the reiki isn't working after they have been attuned.  In this case, there are 2 possibilities, either it is working and they don't sense it in a way they expect or that their attunement was not complete in some way.  If an attunement has been done correctly, reiki cannot fail to be passed on.  However, we sometimes set ourselves unrealistic expectations.  Many people will experience heat, tingling or other sensations/images when they give/receive a reiki treatment but not everyone.  It is always experiential.

So good luck to you all as you start or continue on the reiki path - this is such a wonderful lifetime gift for a comparatively small cost.

Why?  Part of Usui's teachings was distance healing, there is no real difference between sending healing distantly or an attunement?

Many people also feel that financial status and the availabilty of money should not form part of the criteria for who can access reiki. The healing energy should be free, attunements should be free, and reiki should be freely given to as many people as possible, to heal as many as possible.

Also with any teacher - student relationship, there are exchanges, but not always monetary, there is satisfaction and gratitude, and enjoyment, and these can be just as much a reward if not more than any financial consideration could ever be.

Hi Janet. I found your posting above interesting. With my reiki 1 and 2 acheived I've been feeling very cheated by not experiencing anything when I use it. Other people seem to have all sorts of experiences. It's made me quite cynical. My attunements were with an experienced Reiki Master. Do you think I need some sort of a 'top-up' or if it works for some, but not others? Mise x

I hear what you are saying Rose.  

There is also the fact that Dr Usui passed on the attunements in person to his students. However, I think there is a responsibility for the teacher to be able to give proper support to their students not only on a training course but also on an ongoing basis afterwards.  I personally feel that making a one off payment for something that will last me a lifetime is not a huge price to pay.  Though in actual fact, in my previous post I did state that the exchange did not necessarily have to be monetary and I agree that you can get so much more out of it than just money.

There have been other posts about this issue of all things such as healing & readings being free so I have previously commented on this element but I don't think anyone should feel belittled if they do charge for treatments, teaching, readings whatever - as long as a living is "earned honestly" (another of Usui's reiki tenets) that seems acceptable to me.

In fact, in an ideal world all things would be exchanged on a "barter" basis & money wouldn't be required but at this point in history that isn't the case.

With regard to your concerns, do you do self treatments?  If you do, do you have any expectations of what you should or shouldn't feel/experience?  Sometimes, you can self sabotage just by having expectations.  I am sure that the reiki energy is still working but there is nothing to stop you going back to your reiki master & expressing your concerns.  As I've said above, they should be able to help & support you so that you can feel confident again in using the wonderful rieki energy.

I have been having Reiki treatments for a few years now when money permits. In the long term I would like to do Reiki 1&2 and am looking for a reiki master.

From what other people have said it sounds fabulous, although I am a bit nervous of my abilities to be attuned if that makes any sense!

I was attuned over the internet and for free, and too me it was a wonderful gift from a new friend who is also my mentor at Magicka School. She attuned me and taught me with the promise i will pass it on myself and attune someone else when the time is right, and that is payment enough, i agree. It should never be about elitism and who can afford it.

Don't be disheartened, i do not see anything, or do my hands always tingle, and at first i felt nothing at all. I started quite sceptical indeed but gave it a shot and did my 21 days self healing, which did make me feel energised (but was that placebo? I don't think so, as i was thinking it wasn't going to work, not that it would) The more i practiced the more i felt the slight tingle in the hands, or the slight warmth. If i don't use it for a while then you can feel it become weaker, so then you think maybe did i imagine it?? But you didn't, you just need to carry on using everyday so it gets stronger and stronger. It's like a muscle that needs uses everyday. Use it or lose it almost (you don't actually lose it though)

Maybe we could do Reiki swaps on here? Like a Reiki share and all give Reiki to Mise or others that would like a top up?? Would that be allowed??
Maybe your mood is lifted or some other slight change about yourself that you haven't noticed as of yet? Keep looking and using it. I did feel left out at first for not seeing spirit or hearing messages or seeing aura's etc..... but maybe the universe has some other use for me, and it's not with those gifts as of yet??

I too would like to take up Reiki and be a Reiki Healer as I believe it has such positive affects on the human psyche. I too would like to have you email address (if you don't mind) so I can keep in contact with you.

This has been the most positive feedback I have ever heard about Reiki.

Wow just discussing this topic on Friday night with you guys, my hands were tingling like crazy and i was buzzing for hours afterwards, i had the best sleep ever, once got too sleep and i felt little pain compare to what i normally feel each night!! Sorry it took me ages to find your response but I am here now. I think that we both agree on several counts. In answer to your question. My face to face work I do charge for, as I need insurance, heat, light, a room, photocopying, printing, refreshments etc etc. But, I also work online and then I do not charge. The online costs are so much smaller. I also manage to give support and backup free to both types of course, with many pupils turning into long term friends :o)

I think we are coming from a similar place.  I am a holistic therapist & I do sometimes do treatments without charging or for a nominal amount.  I find that the individuals I do it for free for always give something in return (one lady made me some lovely home-made cards).  I have also done therapies for young carers which was very rewarding & humbling.

I just think everything has it's place.  When I start to do my reiki teaching, I will, like you have various overheads which will mean having to charge for the courses, however, that doesn't mean that there can't be concessions for those who are unable to pay the full amount.

Like I said earlier, it's about earning your living honestly, not ripping people off but at the same putting a value on what you are doing.

I would also agree that energy shares are fantastic and that is something that I'll be setting up as well next year.

Thank you for your comments and advise. I am very excited about learning reiki and was given the name of a reiki trainer not too far from my home, today. I am investigating further but feel quite a strong pull. I have goosebumps as I am writing this! I will let you know how my journey goes. Just to throw a spanner in the works here.........
Mikao Usui did not teach symbols to the vast majority of his students, and those few students who were taught symbols (the Imperial Officers) were not ‘attuned’ to these symbols by Usui Sensei. In fact, Mikao Usui did not attune anybody to anything he used to ‘empower’ his students, and the empowerments that he bestowed on his students, at all levels, did not utilise the Reiki symbols.
While I could write forever about this there are a lot of good resources out there about the traditional usui method - you just need to pick whatever you feel is right.

I was attuned to first degree by a teacher to the western Usui reiki, and my second degree was via home study both western and a more traditional way which is a lot closer to the system taught by Mikao Usui in the 1920s in Japan. It took me 3 months to complete but I gained much more from that than I would have done if i was just on a 2 day course (but again that is only my preference)

You also need to understand that, while you will always have a connection to reiki you need to work with it as often as you can.
This means living the precepts, working on yourself and getting your hands on as many people as possible both hands on and distantly. I also receive empowerments from my teacher each week that i tap into. So it is ongoing and a good teacher will alwaus offer support and ongoing backup when or if you need it.

You will know its the right course for you when you come across it. It will just "feel" right.

If you look up resources about the traditional Usui reiki of what he was teaching you will find that he never attuned anyone to anything he used reiju empowerments.

The attunements that a lot of people in the west refer to are what I believe mrs Takata brought to the west with her. Reiki was changed a lot by Mrs Takata because dont forget she was trying to sell this to post war americans and christians!!!!.
I mean can you imgaine......here is this little Japanese lady trying to sell a Japanese healing method to americans where the bombing of pearl harbour was fresh in their minds????

The best book I have read so far is by a guy called Don Beckett called Reiki the true story. I think this was only published this year but is full of new information that has come out of Japan in the last decade or so.

There are many many people teaching this way in the west now, but here is one link you may like to read that hopefully will answer a few of your questions.

I cant believe that you have never heard this before? thats also why I believe people should research a lot more about the teacher you wish to have and the training you wish to receive. I found them both very very different. As I have said, my first degree put me of reiki for a very long time but I am glad I found it again.

Reiki is reiki is reiki, and it all works just as well as the next and that is the good thing. But I felt a little cheated with my first reiki because it felt very complicated and full of dogma and then I started to read up about the methods that were being used that were a lot closer to what Usui himself was allegedly teaching.
For me this felt more in tune to me and I got much more out of it.

Thanks for your info, I have had a look at the website you mentioned.  I have to say that I've never believed the symbols to be the reiki but rather a way of directing the energy in a particular way.

My master like most of those in the west can show his lineage back to Usui via Mrs Takata which would explain why he uses the attunement system but as you comment, reiki is reiki so I don't think that attunements lesson the experience at all.  It's like anything, we all learn differently & it's all about chosing what works for us personally.

The most important thing for me is that the reiki master has actually worked on themself and is moving forward on their spiritual path in a positive way.  This in turn allows them to give the best support to all their students.  I have heard a number of stories where the teacher has been dismissive or unable to answer a students concerns and that is a worry for me.  Whilst reiki works only for the highest good, people can come with all kinds of baggage that the energy will cut through and support is needed as a result. 

Teaching is certainly not something that I think should be undergone lightly.

There are some very bad teachers out there hence the reason why I stopped after my first degree!!
Although I kept it going by treating myself and other people. I knew it worked I just wasnt happy with what I had been taught. I was told an utter load of rubbish.
6 years later when I took my second degree can you imagine my amazement that I had found a course that actually was telling me I would be doing something I had already begun to do naturally by practising on other people - using my intuition!

I wasnt saying that attunements lessen the experince, I was merely pointing out to the people who were saying you HAVE to be attuned to reiki in person by a reiki master for it to be any good, when in actual fact you dont. If that was the case then surely distant healing would not work either?!!!

I dont believe that one form of reiki is any better than the other because at the end of the day its all reiki and it works, some, as I have found out is just simpler than others :o)

I also agree that a good teacher will always offer back up and be able to answer questions you have. As you can guess my first one didnt!

While I have two lineages because of the training I had at second degree I will forver always still want to be told about what is taught in western usui reiki. Just because Im interested in the whole history of it :o)

On that note - anyone done angelic reiki? I was offered this the other day and im still unsure but it sounds one hell of a journey! would love to know more about it.

I believe we are drawn to those people who will help us on our way so good luck with meeting this lady.  If you trust your intuition you will know if she is the right teacher for you but a personal recommendation is usually a good start.

I am glad that you found your reiki 2 experience to be so much better for you.  I think you're probably right that your 1st teacher wasn't in the right "place" to be able to pass on the wonderful power of reiki in it's pure form.

Whether by attunement, empowerment or whatever, the teacher does need to be in the right mental/physical state when passing this on as I believe any baggage can have an effect on the teaching and in a way reduce the experience.

Certainly the work I am doing myself during my "apprenticeship" is not something anyone should undertake lightly...
