I was having a read through these posts and I've had an idea.  S few years ago my friend brought me a little spell book, it came with an oil burner sort of thing and a book, I read through it and felt like it was going to cost me a fortune to try some of the spells as I dont have a lot of stuff that I needed, so I was reading through and inspired by the spell thread, I;ve decided to try one spell a month, I'm going oose one that I feel relevent to what is happening in my life and I'll buy what I need, I'll save any left over things and build up what I may need.  If I remember I'm going to try and write down what happened and anything that feels relevent to the outcome.  It's worth a try I think as I've not done anything like that before.  :)

Hi lou x

is it a book of shadows you have been given? I dont think you have to be a witch to enter things, ideas into your book of shadows. Im thinking of using one and adding things like aromatherapy blends i have made and the effects and results from them or mojo bags i have made and that sort of thing and taking crystal baths and gem exilliars etc. Let us know how it goes. Love Gemini :') xxx

Book of Shadows - not just for witches

Shadows just refers to your knowledge - it's the stuff you've found out and it's for you.  Many years ago when young girls were trained by the village wise woman (witch just means wise woman) she would inherit the woman's book when she died and the girl became the new wise woman.

Anyone can keep a Book of Shadows.  if you're looking for one there are some here:  http://www.littleshopofcharms.co.uk/journals-books-of-shadows-c-158.html

try general shops for supplies

One tip for anyone trying this, you dont have to have products bought from spell supplies or your local shop that sells specific stuff. I have used tealights, incense and candles from the poundshop (also where I got my spiral notebook for my book of shadows), ribbons from my local haberdashers, food ingredients from the supermarket, some things, such as boxes for my tarot cards have come from charity shops. My cauldron is a brass plant holder with three legs from a charity shop.

Look around and find the bargains!

Hey just a wee tip for spells

Hey just a wee tip for spells that need ribbon - I always cut those annoying ribbon tags off the inside of any clothes I buy and save them to use - you het enough to tie around a candle and I've amassed a variety of coulours!!

I bought vervain for a spell but I drastically over ordered (lol) so if anyone would like some am happy to share! :)

Witch?

Hi Gemmagic,

The spell book you have been given has found its way to you for a reason - you don't have to be a fully fledged witch to do spells.

Go with it and see where it takes you - also have a browse in a number of spell books as they can be very different. Just like angel and tarot cards certain spell authors will appeal to you. I have a few kate west books but do like marie bruces spells better and buy her witches almanac every year.

CQ is spot on with her advice. Every time you have to buy something new for your spell spend a day browsings all the stores and charity shops and see what you find espeically if you are purchasing a cauldron or an athame - go with what you feel is comfortable for your home. However I always find what i want when I am not looking for it.

As with all spiritual things go with your heart and what you feel. Looking forward to hearing about your experience - just remember it make take a little while to get the hang of it.

Hello, I haven't started my

Hello, I haven't started my little book yet.  I didn'#t realise i needed things like cauldrons and stuff like that!  lol, I've only got a little oil burner pot to use, the book I got given is called Titianas aroma magic.  Has anyone used that?

There are some really good suggestions there about ways of saving money when getting stuff and good idea about cutting ribbons out of new clothes and stuff.  All good food for thought.

I'm going to have a read through my book tonight and choose one to try.  I'm going shopping in a couple of weeks and I want to see what I can get then. Hopefully I'll find what I need.

Hi,

You dont need a cauldron or an athame. I havent got an athame, I made my wand from a hazel branch, and as I said, my cauldron is a brass flower pot. Some spells require you to burn paper and its easier in a cauldron (or brass flowerpot) because I dont have an open fire. A large ashtray will do the same.

It all depends on the spell you choose to do, what you need. That book sounds great for you. and remember the phrase K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple Stupid) as it doesnt need to be difficult, complex or full of words and rhymes for it to work!
